Free Event with Amy
Lou Jenkins in Mineral Point WI
Enjoy a free event with Amy Lou Jenkins as she reads a short
selection from her award-winning essay collection Every natural Fact. Amy will
read and share insights about how writing a book based on nature walks with her
son changed the way both of them experience the world. Although she did not set
out to write a parenting book, the stories of mother and son away from phones,
computer, advertisements and concrete has resonated with parents and
grandparents who seek an exit from the dissatisfying commercial circle of
owning the latest version of whatever. Those who attend will gain some ideas
about how family stories and literature might be transformed into a loving gift
for this holiday season.

June: 13-17, Amy Lou is so happy to be asked back to lead a week long class about nonfiction writing at the Write By The Lake Writers Retreat in Madison, Wisconsin. Come and say in glorious downtown Madison for a week. Attending this workshop is a gift to the writer in you.
This workshop is for those writing memoir, essays, and essay collections, and writers from other genres wishing to cross over. It’s also for the writer working on a long book project, who’d like to get some published clips before they complete and start to shop their manuscript to agents and editors. Since many writers want to engage agents and editors with their nonfiction in proposals, cover letters, and queries, these nonfiction sessions could be applicable to writers of all genres.
By the end of the week, participants will have decoded strategies used by great writers and have incorporated these skills into their own work. Each writer will have a plan to publish their new writing projects and ongoing systems to keep churning out new writing and publishing credits in multiple venues. Participants will have the option of compiling and publishing a class project: a print-on-demand or class anthology. The class will decide. The 2010 class continued to work together after the workshop and published their own anthology-- A Moment in Time: A nonfiction anthology, by the writers of room 112. Find it at Amazon.com.
